NEW BULLETIN BOARD: THE GINGERBREAD MAN

I love bulletin boards! If they are eye-catching they will build interest in every student. We can motivate our kids to work harder with bulletin boards that display outstanding student work.

I have to confess, this bulletin board wasn't my idea. I took it from here.

We even had gingerbread cookies from La Lata de Galletas!

CLASSROOM DECOR

1.     Banner: I made a banner with my name on it. I used scrapbook paper from Tiger and polka dot ribbon.

2.    Tissue paper flowers.  They are easy to make and you can find hundreds of vídeo tutorials online if you need to see someone make an example.

3.  Fall window collage: I cut leaves from tissue paper and arranged them to make a frame. I used hairspray to adhere them to the glass.

DRAMATIC PLAY GARDEN

I recently finished one of my most ambitious felt projects: a plantable felt garden crate. I'm really happy with the result and I just had to share!

The set includes some carrots, leeks, lettuces, mushrooms, potatoes and a tomato plant.

I made labels with popsicle sticks.

IT'S O-FISH-ALLY SUMMER!

I saw these cute treat bags for the last day of school on one of my favourite blogs: Crazy for first grade and I immediately made them. It's easy and cheap, and your students will love you!!

You'll need fish shaped gummies, ribbon,  clear treat bags and the "It' s o-fish-ally summer!" tags from here. I couldn't find any fish gummies, so I used dolphins, seashells and octopuses instead.

FELT BOARD IDEAS: ALICE THE CAMEL HAS FIVE HUMPS

This is the last felt set I made up. As usual,  Pinterest and google images are my source of inspiration.

This is the rhyme:

Alice the camel has five humps,
Alice the camel has five humps,
Alice the camel has five humps,
So go Alice go! Boom! Boom! Boom!

Alice the camel has four humps,
Alice the camel has three humps.
Alice the camel has two humps.
Alice the camel has one hump.

Alice the camel has no humps,
Alice the camel has no humps,
Alice the camel has no humps,
because Alice is a horse!!

FOUR THINGS RIGHT NOW

  • Storytelling.
Monkey Puzzle by Julia Donaldson. English + Science

Butterfly life cycle with pasta!

  • Classroom bulletin board.
It turned out to be time consuming but  I love the result.

  • Felt board idea.
It took me just an hour and we always have tons of fun when we play with it.

  • Digging for worms sensory play.
Kids catch all the slippery spaghetti worms with tweezers and put them into a plate. They couldn't stop laughing.

DIY MICROWAVE PUFFY PAINT: science + fine motor skills

I've recently discovered Puffy Paint and it's perfect for kids art projects.

We combined the following in a bowl:

  • a cup of flour
  • 2 tablespoons of salt
  • enough water to get the consistency of pancake batter
  • food coloring

Then, add the mixture to squeezy bottles

Paint away!

When the kids are finished pop the painting into the microwave for 30-40 seconds and watch the paint puff up.

A must try for your class!

FELT BOARD IDEAS: TOOTH FAIRY

I was browsing Pinterest for felt board ideas several months ago and I came across this Tooth Fairy set. I immediately decided to create one to use with my first and second graders. I just hide the tooth under  a pillow and I say the rhyme:

Children, children
Look and see.
Can you find the tooth for me?
Is it under the ....... pillow?

The children guess which pillow the tooth is hiding behind. I repeat with different colors, ending on the pillow with the tooth under it. It turned out to be a great success. Children love it!
